A Dattoli Cancer Center Employee Talking with a Patient

  Meeting Schedule
Beamers Support Group
Patients under treatment at Dattoli Cancer Center are invited to attend weekly programs of the Dattoli Foundation-sponsored Beamers Group. These educational meetings offer rotating lectures on topics that really matter to people affected by prostate cancer. Beamers meetings are held in the Dattoli Education Center, and are open to anyone (patient, family members and friends) interested in finding out more about prostate cancer, treatment, over-all wellness and quality of life.

This year we had some excellent programs, including physics, IMRT, dealing with the emotional impact of cancer, and education on the appropriate nutritional guidelines. The clinical staff, as well as many local professionals volunteer their time to provide these programs for Dattoli patients and others who might be interested.

Attending Beamers meetings is good for the physical and emotional health of cancer patients and their loved ones. Knowledge is powerful, and the only side effects are the friendships and connections made with other patients and their partners.

Food for Thought
Dattoli patients, partners and friends can enjoy a monthly "prostate healthy" luncheon, thanks to a program developed by the Dattoli Cancer Foundation.

Every third Thursday, folks gather at Whole Foods Market in Sarasota to sample a delicious, organic lunch prepared by their Demo Specialist. The menu is specially designed to provide many of the elements that are recommended for continued prostate health following treatment. In fact, these foods are good for everyone; for the most part, a prostate-healthy diet is heart-healthy as well. Nutritious foods such as whole grains, vegetables, fruits, grilled fish, chicken, and low fat meats will be part of these monthly programs. Even dark chocolate, known for many benefits (good for the endorphins), and creative uses for tofu are included. If you're in town during a scheduled "Food for Thought" Program, we hope you'll be able to attend. Each month's menu and recipes can be found on the Foundation website in the "Diet and Lifestyle" section; go to www.dattolifoundation.org.
