Key StaffThe Dattoli Cancer Center was created by a core group of experts, each highly respected in the revolutionary field of brachytherapy and advanced radiation delivery systems for the treatment of prostate cancer. The Dattoli Team has been refining.
Michael J. Dattoli, MD
Michael J. Dattoli, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncologist with well over two decades of brachytherapy experience and has performed thousands of prostate implant procedures. He is considered the foremost pioneer optimizing brachytherapy designs to maximize tumor eradication and minimize symptoms. Dr. Dattoli has successfully applied the same technology to other forms of cancer, including breast, head and neck, GI, GYN, sarcomas and lung malignancies. He is a noted author and speaker in this complex field of medicine.
Dr Dattoli attended the University of California at Berkeley and was the valedictorian of his class from Vassar College; he earned his medical degree at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, then distinguished himself at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center, as the Special Fellow in Brachytherapy. He was appointed Assistant/Associate Professor in Brachytherapy and Radiation Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and at New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center.
Richard Sorace, MD
Richard Sorace, MD, PhD, is board-certified in radiation oncology, medical oncology and internal medicine. He also has a PhD in Pharmacology. Dr. Sorace has extensive background in the multimodal approach to cancer treatment and has published original work in this field. He has been key in the development of Dattoli's proven combined modality approach, and heads the Center's research division. He received his Bachelor's degree in Science from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute in New York, and his Medical Doctorate degree, as well as PhD, from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Chicago, then completed his Radiation Oncology residency and Medical Oncology fellowship at the National Cancer Institute.
Jennifer C. Cash, MS, ARNP, OCN
Jennifer C. Cash, MS, ARNP, OCN is a nurse practitioner, certified oncology nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist and an integral part of the Dattoli Team. She is renowned for her particular expertise in all aspects of brachytherapy. Jennifer has an extensive background in Medical Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and especially brachytherapy. She received her Bachelor's of Science degree and Master's of Science degree in nursing from the University of South Florida. She, too, is a noted author and speaker on the topic of brachytherapy, sophisticated radiation delivery systems (IMRT, IGRT and DART) and hormonal therapies.
Center's Physics Team
The Dattoli Cancer Center’s physicists, Drs. Shafiq Islam and Joseph Ting are key members of the patient treatment team. The physicists' function is to verify by exacting calculations that the dose plan for daily radiation is appropriate, adequate and accurate for each individual patient, as well as to certify the minute calibrations of our linear accelerators that ultimately create and project the radiation doses into the patient. They work in close partnership with the physicians and the dosimetry design team. Drs. Islam and Ting have unparalleled expertise in the Varian systems employed at Dattoli Cancer Center. They provide direction for the Center’s important quality assurance standards.
